Obsessed

The Late Spring Grays

do you like my fur coat

Look, I know it’s April. I know I’m supposed to be writing about floral perfumes and pink lip glosses and cream blushes. And maybe you even live somewhere where that is appropriate. But me? I live in Great White North, and we just got some snow yesterday. (Oh, we also got some GRAUPEL, which is a term I was totally unfamiliar with until I moved here. It sounds like the villain from a children’s movie.) So while it is getting slowly, slightly warmer, and there certainly is more sunlight, it’s not yet time to bust out the flowy dresses, bright colors, and other vernal wardrobe accoutrements. I’m still stuck wearing boots and coats and dark winter colors, and pastel blue or bright pink nail polishes still look a little bit absurd. (ABSURD, I say.)

But, as ever, it’s been a long winter, and I’m getting sick of winter makeup and nail colors. I’m over the sparkly nails of the holiday season, sick of the dramatic darks and jewel tones of fall and winter. That leaves nudes and grays. Somehow they are the only colors I can get excited about having on my nails, the only colors that fit the in-betweenesss of right now.

So that’s what I’ve been wearing: smooth greiges, understated nudes–anything grey-based, really. Pinks and other colors only if they are muted and slightly dirty. And if I were to expand my collection, I’d probably go for Deborah Lippman Modern Love, Formula X Extraordinary, or—this one’s a real budgetary stretch—Christian Louboutin Alta Perla, which looks like actual perfection and doubles as a weapon. A girl can dream, right?
